Both rifles will be used for long range steel from a bench or prone and maybe elk and antelope hunting from a hide. So now what do I do? I understand stocks are largely personal preferences but I need a place to start. I have two McMillan stocked rifles already, but these are pure hunting rigs.

Advice from knowledgeable members here would be much appreciated.I remember, albeit through a rosy lens, the formative days of my long range shooting interest. These were the days when I learned about the daunting nature of precision handloading and five hundred yards seemed like it may as well be as far away as Mars.

I fondly recall the first time I rang steel at a thousand yards and the trials I had to pass to get there. These articles have special meaning to me in that they are, to a degree, the realization of a youthful dream and the heavy heart of a lost passion. When I began this project there was a clear aim in mind: build the best Remington based rifle as I could using a method that was easily accessible to you, my audience. I wanted to do this in a way that allowed a challenge for a beginner that was more involved than building an AR.

I was talking to a few guys I know around the gun counter before Thanksgiving and things just went from there. My friend behind the counter lamented the general nuisance of his patrons to me time and again, but the conversation he had with a young and enthusiastic customer while I waited left him with a struck nerve.

The customer was a young man and in him, as he walked out discouraged, I saw my young self. My friend gave me a look of exhaustion. You can build an AR that is more accurate with less cost and it will be a better gun.

I just wanted him to understand that an AR is better than the bolt action he wanted. Why is it that gun stores are the only place that tells people what they should want?

Imagine going to a restaurant and having the waiter tell you what food to eat because he knows better. He wants to build a gun like in the books he reads about snipers and heroes. He wants to embody something ideal to him, not buy what may be best. Guns have culture and not everything needs to make sense. I looked around at the racks and racks of guns around us and gave him a sly glance.

I decided right out the gate that this project would need to be in a. As a kid I always valued the. This project was to be a semi-custom build and I wanted to build something like I had when I was younger, long before the days of chassis guns. I wanted it to have the features of a hunting rifle while offering a set of traits that could be easily used at the range and offer accessibility to people wanting to build something similar. I would strongly recommend this barreled action as a solution to a home bolt gun builder.

There is some deception involved when people talk about the ease of building an AR at home. The barrel on an AR comes with what is called a barrel extension where the bolt locks in. This area on the gun is delivered pre-headspaced and is sort of like a disembodied receiver. Headspacing a bolt action is a daunting task to a new builder. I recall my earliest attempt at getting a Savage barrel off of the action and the painstaking effort of headspacing the new one.

It was so new to me then. I was terrified of the gun blowing up! Looking back at my inexperience made me chuckle while writing this. I probably checked that chamber depth fifty times before I felt confident it was correct. With the action in hand, I cleaned it up and removed the factory trigger to replace it with a Timney drop-in.

I wanted to do a more traditional stock on this gun than what I had originally intended on doing. If I had intended on going straight for a chassis or something more modern it would take away the fun of bedding. Yes, bedding a rifle is more difficult and frustrating than most people have the time and patience for, but it can yield great results if done correctly and is a worthy challenge for the hobby builder.

I received a new stock from Grayboe, a young stock company that is already making waves with the quality of their products. Grayboe is to traditional stocks as Sig Sauer is to pistols. Classic lines and respect of tradition are ever-present, with new advances and great materials used in place of old methods. Grayboe is worth a look to anyone who wants to buck the chassis trend and do so without breaking the bank.WE are working very hard to keep times down, however some of our manufactures have been hit very hard, and others have not.

Typically I buy a complete Remington rifle as a base and expand from there.

Recently though Brownells has begun offering a large line of Howa Barreled Actions. Howa Barreled Actions are the perfect platform for a quality precision rifle build, at an affordable cost. Scope bases are available from a variety of quality manufacturers. The HS3 chassis brings your bolt action rifle to the next level in versatility and ergonomics, with an instant improvement in accuracy.

The chassis itself is only 2. The MDT HS3 drop-in chassis system serves as a base to which the operator can add tactical components according to the desired functionality. The stock is manufactured out of aluminum, hard anodized to mil spec type III, and has durable Polymer side panels which can be ordered in several colors. This chassis was designed to accept Fixed AR butt-stocks and non-beavertail pistol grips.

The HS3 chassis uses. The chassis supports installation of bolt on MIL-STN accessory mounting rails on the bottom and sides of the fore-end. For the sides you will need our specific HS3 Chassis rails. The mounting holes are spaced for Magpul style L5 11 slots and L3 7 slots rails 1. The rifle action only makes contact with the HS3 chassis on the V shape bedding and recoil lug area insuring the best accuracy and repeatability.

The generous clearance on the fore-end makes any barrel up to the size of the action itself free floated. Spring-loaded, telescoping legs adjust quickly, fold parallel to barrel for carrying. If you don't specify one explicitly, Cloud ML Engine creates your version using the current default runtime version (typically the most recent stable version).

You can specify a runtime version to use when you start a batch prediction job. This is to accommodate getting predictions using a model that is not deployed on Cloud ML Engine. You should never use a different runtime version than the default for a deployed model. Doing so is likely to cause unexpected errors. You cannot request online predictions from models outside of Cloud ML Engine, so there is no option to override the default runtime version in your request.

The default runtime version set for a model version cannot be changed. To specify a different runtime version for a model version, deploy a new version using the same training artifacts that you used initially.

Google Cloud Platform uses zones and regions to define the geographic locations of physical computing resources. Cloud ML Engine uses regions to designate its processing. When you deploy a model for prediction, you specify the default region that you want prediction to run in.

When you start a batch prediction job, you can specify a region to run the job in, overriding the default region. Online predictions are always served from the region set when the model was created. Batch prediction generates job logs that you can view on Stackdriver Logging.

You can also get logs for online prediction requests if you configure your model to generate them when you create it. You can set online prediction logging for a model by setting onlinePredictionLogging to true (True in Python) in the Model resource you use when creating your model with projects.

If you use the gcloud command-line tool to create your model, include the --enable-logging flag when you run gcloud ml-engine models create. You can request batch prediction using a model that you haven't deployed to the Cloud ML Engine service. Instead of specifying a model or version name, you can use the URI of a Google Cloud Storage location where the model you want to run is stored.

Because an undeployed model doesn't have an established default runtime version, you should explicitly set it in your job request. If you don't, Cloud ML Engine will use the latest stable runtime version. In all other ways, a batch prediction job using an undeployed model behaves as any other batch job. You can use the Cloud ML Engine prediction service to host your models that are in production, but you can also use it to test your models. Traditionally, model testing is the step before preparing to deploy a machine learning solution.

The purpose of a test pass is to test your model in an environment that's as close to the way that it will be used in real-world situations. Remember that you can have multiple versions of a model concurrently deployed on the service.

That means you can have multiple revisions of your model in testing at once if you need to. It also makes it easy to have a production version of the model deployed while testing the next revision. As with so much of developing machine learning applications, the availability of fresh data is often a limiting factor. You should develop strategies to split the data you have and collect new data to use for testing. Infer values from new data instances with online prediction.
